Sean Sherlock joined KCPM in March of 2021 as a partner specializing in criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation. Mr. Sherlock is a passionate and forceful advocate for his clients who consistently achieves outstanding results through the application of his extensive trial experience and legal insight.

He previously served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Alexandria for over five years, during which time he prosecuted offenses including homicide and other violent crime, gang offenses, and domestic violence.

About Sean A. Sherlock

Mr. Sherlock volunteers in various roles to improve the legal community and the Alexandria community he calls home.  He is a director of the Alexandria Bar Association, vice-chair of the Virginia State Bar’s local attorney disciplinary committee, and serves on two committees through the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court focused on improving access to justice and reducing disparities in the juvenile justice system.

From 2014 to 2019, Mr. Sherlock helped organize Jazz 4 Justice Alexandria, an annual benefit concert that raised thousands of dollars for youth scholarships and pro bono legal services in the City of Alexandria. He has also assisted in organizing multiple civic events, including the Commonwealth’s Attorney Community Academy, and the Alexandria Silent Witness Vigil honoring victims of domestic violence in 2017 and 2019.

Legal Experience in Alexandria, Northern Virginia

His extensive legal knowledge and success in the courtroom makes him a sought-after educator and trainer for other legal professionals.

As a prosecutor, he conducted state-wide and local trainings for prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and allied professionals on a range of topics including evidence-based prosecution strategies in domestic violence cases, prosecution of criminal street gangs, Fourth and Fifth Amendment issues for police, educational neglect, animal cruelty, and others. Since leaving the prosecutor’s office, Mr. Sherlock routinely trains new police recruits in courtroom procedure and testimony at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, and has also conducted Virginia-State-Bar-approved continuing legal education for attorneys on topics including family abuse protective orders, digital evidence, and the Fourth Amendment.

Mr. Sherlock holds a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law, and resides in Alexandria with his wife, Christina Sherlock, and their three daughters.
